The Untold - 3 Act Structure

Me and Farhath thought it would be a fun idea to depict a 3 Act Structure for our movie, The Untold. Since I posted recently about films that are structured in this way we thought our film should also have it's plot structured. Our movie follows a more non-liner structure as it has frequent flashbacks and surprises and the ending isn't necessarily what you'd expect.

Act One - Here we'll introduce our protagonist, Charles. Introducing the audience to this character and his home. Through his obsessive hand washing at his kitchen basin and frequent eyebrow wiping the viewers being to form this picture of the character as someone who has some psychological issues. The audience begin to understand that he's troubled by something and this is the hook - prying the viewers in to find out what exactly he has done or witnessed ect. We see through impulsive flashbacks that he has had an aggressive encounter with a young woman which resulted in her death. With these images haunting his mind he decides to leave the house. As Charles goes to close the door; he senses something behind him, swiftly turning he faces the hallway leading to the kitchen and there is nothing there. He shrugs this off and continues his way towards his car parked up outside his home. When at his destination, he has an encounter with a mysterious figure who him and the audience recognize to be the young woman from his flashbacks. She lunges to attack him and from this moment on he soon takes note he is being haunted and in serious danger.

Act Two - Here is where plot point 2 comes into play. The confrontation Charles has to face. He has recognized his purpose and is planning on how to resolve it. He knows he has to find a way to rid him self of this haunting, or curse. But this process forces upon him many difficulties and troubles. The young woman haunting him will have her effect on him, with frequent attempts of attacking him, resulting in severe mental instability. Throughout this process, his friends, family and most important his wife have started to notice his strange behavior  His guilt is slowly taking control and making him insane and unpredictable. With his thoughts of that evening constantly playing over in his mind he finds no one to confide with thus driving him more and more crazy.

Act Three - After enduring mental torment for some while and searching for answers to no avail he finally finds a solution to rid him of his guilt and hauntings. Not being a religious man, he turned to the church as his last result. Confining in a preist he tells of his sins and prays for forgiveness and for him to be blessed and have the hauntings of this young woman gone. He also has the back up of a close friend who finally pried his torment out of him. The climax of the movie now starts to rear up and the audience are faced with the "What now?" question. As Charles had feared, both priest and friend agree it's not right to hide this from his wife and so he tells her of what he committed. She is immediately disgusted and hurt and with the unknown presence of the young woman lurking around this confrontation, Charles's wife becomes possessed. The resolution is his final battle with the girl he murdered and had relations with, but in his wife's body thus making it hard for him to actually harm her. This results in Charles's death and the young woman getting her 'revenge'.
