Props and Costumes! a.k.a the fun stuff.

Below is a list of all the props we'll need to shoot our opening sequence for 'The Untold', these things include:

  • Fake blood - Now where we'll find this, not sure. Hopefully we can get some from a costume shop at a reasonable price. Going to try and avoid ketchup as much as possible! This will be used for the scenes of Charles washing his hands in the sink and for our next prop, knife.

  • Weapon: Knife - We'll need a fake knife, if not a real one (and rest assured we'll be careful! :p) for the scene in which Charles's attacking the young woman.

  • Coat(s) - For when Charles exits his home, hopefully we can find a coat stand of some sort and just hang a bunch of coats up on it.

  • Car - I think this (as well as the fake blood) is one of the most important props of all. Much of our filming will have shots of the car, inside the car and exiting the car. Fortunately our actor as Charles owns a car, bonus!

Okay...okay so the car is a little  exaggerated...being students we can't afford beautiful cars like the Citroen Survolt but you know, just for inspiration and all :p

All these props are super important for shooting, to create the right mis-en-scene we'll need to supply these props on the day or find substitutes. We want to achieve a real atmosphere that the movie presents and not let it break that 'veil' and have the audience know it's fake.

As for costumes and make-up, it's as follows:

  • Charles - We want Charles to be dressed in casual/comfortable clothes so preferably jeans and a grey, black or white plain top. As for shoes, perhaps just a pair of plain trainers or shoes. Nothing fancy or too 'young'.
  • 'Flashback' Charles - As this scene is in his own home we want him to look comfortable and very casual. So a nice plain top again, grey or white, but this time with joggers or some other pair of casual trousers. He'll also be barefoot or in just socks as we want the audience to know he's in his own home.
  • Young woman(dead)- She'll be wearing the same clothes in which she died but blood stain and a little torn from the fighting off Charles. For make-up she'll have very dark rimmed eyes as if she's not slept for years, messed hair and dry, chapped lips. Her neck will also be made out to look very bruised from Charles's strangle.
  • 'Flashback' of young woman - We've chosen to have a white t-shirt/blouse again as later on we'll be adding fake blood to emphasize her wounds. She'll be dressed in jeans or nice trousers. Also wearing some sort of heel or 'fancy' shoe. We want her to look older than she is, which is 18, so her make-up will be a bit more 'made up' than usual, black wing eyeliner perhaps and a red lip.

Costume is equally as important as props. The way a character is dressed and made up indicates their persona, their traits, interests and personality. Although our costumes are quite plain we want to let the audience know Charles is an ordinary guy and that the shock is him murdering someone, not everyone is what they seem.
